HFI CEO featured in media interviews

Over the last month, members of the HFI team have been featured on various media outlets, including PBS, Indus News, and DW News to share expert opinion on the US withdrawal of support from WHO, maternal and child health in the age of COVID, and other topics. In early July, HFI's CEO, Dr. Andrea Feigl, appeared on DW News to discuss coronavirus leadership in the US, treatments and vaccines, and the path forward from a public health perspective.

HFI’s COVID-19 Strategy

There are many ways to partner with us during this COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you offer a unique perspective based on your work within the NCD space, or you bring expertise in innovative finance, we would love to collaborate with you.

HFI has developed a framework of medium-term solutions to aid in planning for the COVID-19 recovery phase, so that governments are not forced to divest in other important health interventions. HFI has received overwhelming interest from large organizations and are now in need of partnerships to respond to these calls. If would like to be further involved with HFI's mission today, please use the link below below.

HFI Country Programs

Over the past month, HFI has made extensive progress on scoping in Nigeria and Cambodia. Using information gathered from stakeholder consultations and desktop research, HFI’s Country Programs synthesized the financial, epidemiological, economic, and business landscapes in each country; identified existing chronic disease treatment platforms, and highlighted partnership opportunities in efforts to understand what kind of investable products could be introduced in each country.

Recruitment efforts are still underway in Tanzania, Jordan, and Mexico. The Country Programs team is continuing its search for ambassadors to assist with scoping efforts in the aforementioned countries. If you are interested in these roles or are interested in finding ways to collaborate, please reach out at info@healthfinanceinstitute.org.

HFI team continues to grow

In last month’s newsletter, we announced the expansion of our team. This month, we continue to welcome new team members.

Debbie Peters has joined HFI as its Director of Innovative Finance, bringing decades of pharmacy, business, finance and investment experience across government, industry, and academia. HFI welcomes Janani Jayesh and Urooj Amir to our internship program.

HFI Book Club and Recognizing Juneteenth

In efforts to remain connected while working remotely, the HFI team has put together a book club. The group gets together every other week to engage in riveting discussions on selected readings.

In light of the current social climate in the United States, members of the book club selected White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo for the group’s inaugural gathering. The group has discussed tangible ways that learnings from the book can be applied both within the organization and by the individuals that comprise HFI.

Last month, HFI recognized Juneteenth by having each team member spend an hour educating themselves on racism and the history of Juneteenth. Topics studied by staff members included racism as a public health issue, the history of institutionalized racism, and the history of slavery and civil rights in the United States.
