Happy November! This month is jam-packed with events and resources on diabetes and opportunities to support HFI’s programs in Mexico and Armenia. Keep reading for more details!
November is National Diabetes Month in the United States, and November 14 was World Diabetes Day. Throughout the month, HFI has been highlighting the barriers to adequate diabetes care around the world.
DID YOU KNOW?
Diabetes and diabetic complications management has been partially or completely disrupted by COVID-19 in over 60% of countries. Check out the infographic below for more statistics on the global burden.
While the severity of T2D is well-acknowledged in Mexico, T1D is frequently overlooked; data on T1D’s prevalence, health impacts, and economic burden in Mexico is limited and often contradictory. Read our full blog post by clicking on the button below.
While 141,200 adults in Armenia are living with T2D, there are gaps in implementing WHO-recommended cost-effective interventions in care. Read our full blog post by clicking on the button below.
The HFI approach to diabetes in
Mexico and Armenia
HFI is currently in the process of launching two diabetes programs in Mexico and Armenia. HFI will work with local partners in Mexico to increase access to high-quality end-to-end solutions for diabetes management, especially to fill gaps such as access to life-saving medical devices for youth living with T1D. This pilot will form the foundation of the global Devices for Development Consortium that will initially focus on building real-world data and evidence on continuous glucose monitors for children and youth in under-resourced settings to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of diabetes care. Additionally, HFI will partner with the Danish Red Cross to create the first social impact bond for T2D in Armenia.
At HFI, these programs are just the beginning! Our mission to tackle the NCD finance deficit through public-private partnerships is far-reaching, and we look forward to expanding our work.
How to support HFI's diabetes programs
on Giving Tuesday
Thanks to Sandclock and Wicked Craniums, we raised approximately $9,000 from the Water God auction to support our work in Armenia and Mexico! But we are not stopping there – November 30 is Giving Tuesday, a philanthropic movement focused on supporting impactful programming in the US and abroad. This Giving Tuesday, please donate to HFI to support our diabetes programs in Armenia and Mexico.

Beyond Giving Tuesday and National Diabetes Month, we ask that you consider donating to HFI’s overarching mission to advocate for and forge data-driven/evidence-based innovative financing partnerships to take on the finance deficit of the deadliest NCDs worldwide.
As our CEO & Founder Dr. Andrea Feigl recently noted in a panel discussion on catalyzing investments for NCDs, “Our theory of change is this: We need better evidence - and better investment cases can bring about better investments in health.”
You can find our general donation link by clicking on the button below. Additionally, HFI is enrolled in AmazonSmile, which allows a portion of Amazon’s revenue to go to a nonprofit of your choice, such as HFI! Please support our work by setting HFI as your recipient charity.
